Chanel Goes Country

“It’s Coco ècolo, ecology can be chic.  No?  One can use natural fabrics and learn from nature,” said Karl Lagerfeld, after his Spring/Summer 2010 Chanel collection showed in Paris yesterday.  The show, staged in a giant mock barn replete with hay and a large wooden double C logo, displayed models wearing rough linen, jute and raffia, and a sustained variation of caramels, taupes, and ecrus.  Most of the models were wearing clogs, which once was reserved for nurses, surgeons, chefs and vegans, but now has been elevated to a new chic level.

“I hear all this talk about organic farming and the environment and I’m all for it, but there must be a certain sophistication, so it’s not used as an excuse to let things go to seed.”

Karl still managed to catch on to the green issue even if placing high-end Chanel dresses in country setting might seem like offering slices of Marie Antoinette’s proverbial cake.  Whether you go country on us or not, Karl, we will always have a soft spot in our eco-friendly hearts for you, and, of course, for Chanel.

Wow, Chanel really got it right! The country setting is magical…what a great theme :-)

Nevertheless I think Fashionable Earth’s fashion show will knock them out of the park ;-)
