Belief Behind Bars

Tonight Fashionable Earth will be joining world-renowned musicians, actors, artists, professors and activists in supporting religious freedom and unity in Iran at the University of Southern California’s special event, “Belief Behind Bars”.

The Iranian government has arrested and jailed religious minorities for many years.  More than a year ago, seven members of Iran’s Bahá’í community, the largest non-Muslim religious minority in Iran, were unjustly jailed.  The five men and two women were arrested in the spring of 2008 and have been held in prison, charged with a variety of offenses, including two capital crimes: “corrupting the Earth” and “espionage for Israel”.

Belief Behind Bars

Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom all agree that these seven Bahá’ís are being targeted solely because of their religious beliefs — and have called on the Iranian government to release them.  In addition, yesterday the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom sent a letter to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, asking her to address religious freedom violations in Iran.

Please join Fashionable Earth tonight at USC and lift your voice for religious freedom!  This season’s cause as part of our T-shirt Revolution is focused on Iran and we believe that each individual can change the world by being more aware of global issues and helping to bring back ethics, values and idealism to our society.  Only a worldwide cry for justice will impact the Iranian government’s actions.
