Global Handwashing Day

Today is Global Handwashing Day, in which cities around the globe will have activities that educate people on the benefits of washing their hands with soap.

Poor hygiene contributes to about 1.5 million worldwide deaths of children under five each year.  However, research shows that children and youth, which account for the segment of our society that is the most energetic, enthusiastic and open to new ideas, can also be powerful agents of behavioral change.  So, while we generally advocate a change in attitude about fashion and the earth, encouraging everyone to reduce, reuse and restyle, today we would also like to support handwashing.  Handwashing with soap is the most effective and inexpensive way to prevent infections and diseases, and we hope that you remember to always wash your hands with soap and be healthy!
