Eighties Über Alles

Ah, like, totally, the Eighties!  The fashion business loved the Eighties.  During that decade, dressmakers became known as designers and Giorgio Armani, Ralph Lauren and Donna Karan all became household names in a way they had never been before.  Donna Karan invented the body suit and was hailed as a working woman designing for working women.  Karl Lagerfeld breathed new life, and an unprecedented, calculated and clever vulgarity into Chanel.

The Eighties has never gone away.  And that is great for us, because it never left our closets!  Now, we just are going to rework and restyle what we have so it can reappear on us… !  And remember, Halloween is a great time to relive your favorite Eighties outfits.

Love your remark – ‘it never left our closets’. I’ve just finished revamping my closet and realized I have enough ‘eighties’ outfits to fill a Paris boutique. And I’m not even nostalgic for the eighties – even LESS for the seventies. There’s no decade like the thirties when it comes to fashion- but then we didn’t have to live in the Great Depression, only the Not so Great Depression.

The Eighties weren’t so bad, minus the shoulder pads and ridiculous hair. We did manage to get leggings from the 80s, an amazing feat. In my opinion, “80s Trend” will keep cycling in and out for decades to come. So we had better get used to it. My strategy is to incorporate the trends from the eighties that I actually did like in to my wardrobe.

I love the 80’s look yet from far I prefer to see it on original pictures/movies/music video clips straight from that period… it totally blows me away, seems charismatic, deep, and dramatic somehow , far more than when you see it in some attemts of revival… then I enjoy inspirations as a breath of fresh air, but it all depends on dosages and elements, on how and why..
