Chanel’s Triumph for Fake Fur
At the Chanel Spring/Summer 2010 collection last year, Karl Lagerfeld staged a country fete around a barn, calling it Coco ècolo. For this year’s Fall/Winter collection, he again dabbled in “green politics” by declaring a “triumph for fake fur”.

He erected a huge iceberg in the middle of the runway, which appropriately began to melt, to go with his theme of “Global cooling,” and not global warming, adding, wisely, that “in any case, nature has its surprises.” The models wore tweeds embellished with furry decoration, knitted dresses, fur vests over the classic tweed jacket, white snowball evening bags and icicle rings. Remember Karl’s advice: “you cannot fake chic but you can be chic in fake fur.”
