Reuse
Due to mass production and globalization, it is possible for consumers to purchase merchandise cheaply with the intent of only wearing it one season or as long as the trend lasts. The prices on the clothing are so low that many consider the apparel to be disposal, calling it “fast fashion.”
The problems with cheap chic and fast fashion are many, ranging from sweatshop workers to the depletion of the earth’s resources and the increase of our waste landfills. Instead of throwing away your old clothing or keeping it stored away in your closet, why not reuse it again and again?
The Fashionable Earth Organization has created two programs aimed at reusing clothing and in building a socially just and environmentally sustainable society: the T-shirt Revolution and Clothing Swaps.
