T-shirt Revolution
Environmental issues are not the only challenges confronting our planet. There are other pressing social, political and economic concerns which affect us all and the Fashionable Earth Organization is committed to supporting human rights and social justice through our T-shirt Revolution.
Connecting fashion with both environmental and social responsibility, the T-shirt Revolution focuses on a different current global issue every few months and creates a limited-edition T-shirt, made with donated clothing and sold to fund international projects, non-governmental agencies, non-profit organizations and to promote democracy and human rights throughout the world. The intention is to create designs on donated fabrics with the philosophy that each individual can change the world by being more aware of global issues and helping to bring back ethics, values and idealism to our society.
Our first limited-edition T-shirt presents two designs promoting unity and religious freedom in Iran. The designs, created by Tammy Kazazi and Neda Rouhani, are set on donated T-shirts. The first features the word azadi, meaning freedom in Persian, over a woman’s raised fist, regarded as an expression of solidarity and strength. The second design quotes a Rumi poem inside the wrist of a clenched fist: “Love’s nationality is separate from all other religions, The lover’s religion and nationality is the Beloved. The lover’s cause is separate from all other causes, Love is the astrolabe of God’s mysteries.”
